Glimpse of India
📍KR Market, Bengaluru 🗓️ May, 2018
Krishnarajendra Market, commonly known as KR Market, is a bustling wholesale market located in the heart of Bangalore, home to one of the world’s largest flower markets. Bangalore, the capital city of Karnataka, is inhabited by around 1.2 crore (12 million) people, with a population density of approximately 5,000 people per square kilometer. This density is noticeable as you step into KR Market. It lacks a clear beginning or end, presenting an endless gradient of abundance. There’s nothing you can’t find here. When everyday life in the city felt monotonous and colours began to fade, I often visited KR Market. It evoked a mixture of emotions—joy, sadness, and everything in between.

On gray mornings, I recall the woman searching for the perfect rope, the cow enjoying her midday meal, and the ajja (grandpa) selecting the ideal mango for his pile. While they have all moved on with their lives, I find myself stuck in time, ensuring the ox-cart doesn’t collide with the passing truck.
